Savings Barometer

The Savings Barometer is an economic indicator of the South African savings environment, indicating how difficult or easy the environment is for South African households, corporates and government to save. It will be issued quarterly in January, April, July and October with accompanying comment.

Although the South African Reserve Bank already publishes the level of household, corporate and government savings quarterly, the Barometer intends to provide another side to the picture – the state of the savings environment and how conducive it is to encourage savings. The Savings Barometer can be used to draw meaningful insights about the current level of savings.
